you get an 82% on a test on a book you didn't read for one of your classes. That's a great relief and a great feeling. Felt like I did worse but I didn't!

It bothers me to hell when I have a class assign 20 hours of reading for an essay that takes me 2 hours to write. There is a marginal time spent /grade received curve that gets real steep after summaries, skimming, and quote finding.

Why would you need that much reading time for such a relatively short essay?

Because teachers are dicks and I usually write and edit at about 500-1000 words/hour for each essay. At least at my school, if they assign a 2000 word essay, they expect what should be a 4000 word essay that's been cut down to 2000 words.
